Our collaboration with Macondo

A group of young people, the dream of contributing to a better world, and one land: Sicily. That is how, in 1993, the Macondo Commercio Solidale cooperative was born in Palermo, out of a fair-trade shop.

Fair Trade is built on dialogue, transparency and respect, and aims for greater equity between the North and South of the world through international trade.

Fairness and solidarity are the values on which Macondo has rooted itself: social justice for economically disadvantaged producers and a bond of togetherness with the communities of every South of the World, expressed through support for local producers.

The union of two Sicilian realities like Macondo and Ciokarrua brings forward an ambitious project of quality, ethics and growth.

Crafting chocolate from Bean to Bar embodies Ciokarrua's ambition to work chocolate by hand, starting from highly selected, guaranteed agricultural raw materials.

Sourcing the finest cocoa beans to produce cocoa mass thus becomes essential for Ciokarrua. And who better than Macondo, with thirty years of experience behind it, to be the reference point in Sicily for importing outstanding raw materials such as cocoa beans, sugar and spices.

In the same way, the Macondo cooperative's search for producers to entrust with the creation of its own cocoa masses led it to entrust part of that work to Ciokarrua, which crafts them through a process of selection and roasting at its own artisan Workshop.

A solid exchange that recognises Macondo as the guarantor of the entire import chain, for an ethically fair product, and sees in Ciokarrua the artisan producer chosen to create the finest cocoa masses.
